On December 6-7, 2023, Hola @ Remitly attended the We Are All Human Foundation’s two-day Hispanic Leadership Summit in New York City. Hola @ Remitly, an employee-led affinity group, focuses on uniting Hispanic employees to nurture an inclusive environment and support career development. As a bronze sponsor, the affinity group saw this as a valuable platform to learn from and connect with other companies sharing similar goals. “Attending the Summit and observing how companies are engaging with our communities was very insightful,” Ileana says. “We were thrilled to witness other companies actively working towards activating the Hispanic community and promoting gender equality in the United States.”

The Summit’s themes centered on inclusion, authenticity, mentorship, and navigating allyship. These resonated with Ileana Rocha, a Global CS Assurance Lead based in Remitly’s Managua, Nicaragua office. She emphasized the importance of leading authentically, regardless of one’s position or background, and encouraged others not to shy away from seeking opportunities. “You can be your authentic self and succeed,” she says. “It’s what we’re hoping to achieve with Hola @ Remitly, to show that we can represent who we are.”

Attending the Summit alongside other companies seeking to strengthen connections in Hispanic communities — and seeing the impact of Remitly’s services in real life with a customer— was a full-circle moment for Ileana.

She recalls meeting an Uber driver from the Dominican Republic during her trip. “He asked us where we worked and when we said Remitly, he told us that’s his favorite app. He pulled out his phone to display the app and told us how easy it was to send money to his family,” she says. “He told us that Remitly was the only app he uses to send money to his family because it’s reliable and easy to use.”
